Brainmade - An alter that the brain created that has no outside source
Dormant Alters - Alters who are no longer active in the system, ie. they cannot front, do not appear in the IW (if the system has one) and cannot communicate with other alters.
Fragments - Alters who are not fully formed or have fully split in the system. They are incredibly simple in nature and often to serve one job or hold onto a specific memory or emotion for the system
Introjects - Alters who have or drew characteristics from an outside source
- Factive - An alter based on a real person, ex: a celebrity, or an abuser
- Faitive/Fucktive/Fogitive - An alter who has mixed sources, ex: having both a fictional and real life source
- Fictive - An alter based off of fictional media, ex: a book character, movies, video games etc.
- Objectives - An alter that is based off an object, often times said object provided great comfort during times of trauma and extreme stress
- Songatives - An alter whose source is a song
- Non-Human - An alter who simply isn’t human, they can fall into any of the above categories as well

Academic Alters - An alter who primarily helps with academic or school work and often enjoys doing so
Architect - An alter who helps create or destroy parts of the inner-world
Archiver - An alter who works closely with gatekeepers, sorts memories, knowledge, information and system records
Avenger - Alter who holds rage and anger from childhood abuse and may seek retribution from the abuser.
Caregiver - Takes care of the system
Caretaker - Takes care of people outside the system
Dream Controller - For alters who can manipulate dreams
Gatekeeper - An alter that controls switching, access to an internal world or certain areas of it, or access to certain alters or memories.
Host - Alters who take control of the body the most
Co-Host - Alters who are less active than the hosts, but still front relatively often
Internal Self-Helper - An alter that holds vast amounts of knowledge about the system, alters, trauma, and/or internal workings, also seen as a hidden observer in the system
Jester - An alter who attempts to lighten the mood by acting playful and comedic
Little - Children of the system who are under the age of 12
Logical Alter - An alter who helps add logical input in emotionally charged situations, or help add logical clarity
Malicator - An alter who knows what they’re doing is hurting people but doesn’t care. Likes to hurt others
Manipulator - An alter that are prone to manipulating others, whether intentionally or unintentionally
Medic - An alter who either tends to wounds in the inner-world or take care of any wounds inflicted on the body
Memory Holder - An alter who typically holds memories of abuse, childhood innocence, love from abusive people ect. so others don't have to confront those memories
Middle - An alter who is 13 to 15 years old
Mood Lifter - An alter who alleviates the mood of the body or the people around them in the system, typically is very kind and caring to the people around them
Mood Depleater - The opposite of a mood lifter, worsens the mood of the body or the people around them in the system
Overseer / Manager - Manages menial tasks in the inner-world, often helping with construction of the inner-world
Persecutor - An alter who intentionally or unintentionally harms the system or body, sabotages healing, works with abusers etc. Often times mislead protectors
Prosecutor - An alter who intentionally or unintentionally harms people outside the body, usually hostile as a means to protect the system
Productivity Alter - An alter who likes to do work, either internally or externally, often helps in workplace or school environments
Protector - An alter who protects the system in some way
- Emotional Protector - An alter who protects the system from emotional turmoil or emotional abuse
- Little Protector - An alter who protects the littles in the system
- Physical Protector - An alter who protects the system from physically threatening scenarios or physical abuse
- Romantic Protector - An alter who protects the system from potentially harmful romantic relationships
- Sexual Protector - An alter who protects the system from sexually threatening scenarios or sexual abuse
Self-Harm Alter - An alter who carries the urges and intrusive thoughts of self-harm, often partaking in it while in front or in the inner-world
Sexual Alter - An alter who either carries the feelings of sexual desire, and/or will attempt to front during sexual activities
Hypersexual Alter - An alter who either carries the feelings of hypersexual desire, most often caused by sexual trauma
Sleep Alter - Alters that front to put the body to sleep or aid in sleeping, often working with dream controllers
Social Alter - An alter who enjoys interacting with others, either internally or externally, and will often front to deal with people in social situations
Soother - An alter who attempts to calm down emotionally or physically upset people or other alters
Suicide Alter - An alter who carries the urges and intrusive thoughts of suicide for the system, often extremely suicidal as a result
Symptom Holder - An alter who carries symptoms of disorders or illnesses for the system
Therapist - An alter who helps others with deconstructing negative emotions and trauma, mostly within the system
Trauma Holder - An alter who carries trauma for the system, can be a plethora of different traumatic scenarios if applicable to the system
- Abandonment Trauma Holder - An alter who carries the trauma of being abandoned or left alone, most likely when another traumatic event was occuring
- Abuse Trauma Holder - An alter who carries trauma directly from being abused, whether it be emotional, physical, pschological or sexual
- Internal Trauma Holder - An alter who holds trauma that is caused within the system
- LGBTQ+ Trauma Holder - An alter who holds trauma caused explicitly from being LGBTQ+ ie. severe homophobia/transphobia, harassment, bullying etc.
- Parental Trauma Holder - An alter who holds trauma caused by the body's parents or guardians
- Racism Trauma Holder - An alter who holds trauma caused explicitly from being bodily POC, ex: harassment, bullying, death threats etc.
- Religious Trauma Holder - An alter who holds trauma caused by being forced into religion, or from religion severely negatively impacting the system life, ex: conversion therapy, being forced to go to church etc.
- Sexual Trauma Holder - An alter who carries trauma caused explicitly from sexual abuse, ex: sexual assault, rape
Unknown Role - An alter who has an unknown or undiscovered role in the system
